The program will open with a duet in D Major for violin and cello by Joseph Haydn. This will be followed by Beethoven’s “Archduke” Trio, Opus 97. This, his final piano trio, was dedicated to Archduke Rudolph, Beethoven’s most loyal patron, student, good friend, and brother of the Austrian Emperor. An expansive work, written in only 23 days, this composition is esteemed as one of the grandest of both Beethoven’s work and of the entire piano trio repertoire.
Founded in January 2014, Trillium, an ensemble of strings and piano, has engaged numerous audiences with its expressive interpretations at the heart of the piano trio literature, in addition to performances of quartets and quintets. The members of the trio are Alison Maerker Garner, violin; Alicia Randisi-Hooker, cello, adjunct faculty, Maryville College; and Robert Bonham, piano, Professor Emeritus, Maryville College.
