Maryville College senior, Riley Hamant, directs a staged reading of “An Easy Heaven” by Eric Peter Schwartz.
Synopsis: Since his father died, seventeen-year-old Toby has lost all his motivation and drive in favor of coasting through the rest of his life. His mother, uncle, and best friend try to confront him, but to no avail. It’s only when a clumsy angel crashes through the ceiling that Toby decides to take action, handcuffing himself to the angel in order to skip out on life altogether and get into Heaven on a technicality. Will this easy out give Toby the peace of mind he’s hoping for, or are some things in life worth the pain of living?
After the screening, Maryville College’s Director of Counseling, Ms. Claudia Werner, LPC/MHSP, will answer questions about grief, anxiety, and depression, and share resources for supporting mental health.
The event is hosted by Broadway on Demand.
