This drama is one of the great tragedy plays by William Shakespeare. The themes of the plot cover indecision, revenge and retribution, deception, ambition, loyalty and fate.
Ask any theatre scholar, producer, director, or actor in the world, “What is the greatest play ever written?”  The most frequent answer will be Hamlet.  Ask those same people what is the greatest role ever written for the stage, and the answer will most likely be Hamlet.
In one form or another, you’ve probably heard these words, all from Hamlet:
To be or not to be, that is the question; neither a borrower nor a lender be; to thine own self be true;  method in his madness; something’s rotten in Denmark, she or he doth protest too much; frailty thy name is woman; in my mind’s eye, or the play’s the thing.
And there are other phrases so expressive that they have become of every day speech even 400 years later. 
For those who want conflict in their entertainment, this play has it. There are family problems, murder, madness, bad friends and bad boyfriends, violence and revenge. The works of Shakespeare have stood the test of time. He tested language and the human spirit. Only by seeing the play can the audience come to their own decisions about questions such as; was Hamlet really mad? Did Ophelia really commit suicide? Did Gertrude try to save Hamlet in the end? This is a play rich in psychologically complex characters.
The CCA production runs approximately an hour and forty five minutes.  Virtually every production seen is edited.
Three of the principal roles are played by professional actors, Lisa Soland, John Ferguson,  Jay Doolittle.  They are joined by a cast of college and community actors.
