The 7 Summits Climb for Alzheimer's: Memories are Everything by Alan Arnette
when: Sun, October 7, 2012
where: Harold And Jean Lambert Recital Hall
time: 3:00pm
The Pat Summitt Foundation is pleased to present Alan Arnette. An avid mountain climber and Alzheimer's disease advocate, Alan accomplished at age 54 what few have done before: he climbed the highest peak on each of the 7 continents as part of The 7 Summits Climb for Alzheimer’s: Memories are Everything campaign. Alan undertook this challenge in order to reach millions of people worldwide to raise awareness and research funds with his message of hope, need, and urgency about Alzheimer’s disease.
Alan climbed the 7 Summits in memory of his mother, Ida Arnette, who passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2009. His experience as a family caregiver changed his life forever and transformed him into a champion for the fight against our nation’s 6th leading cause of death.
Alan takes us on his climbs, including the summit of Mt. Everest, and brings home the realities of Alzheimer’s with his candid and powerful multi-media presentation about his mother’s struggle and the challenges he faced as her caregiver - not unlike the challenges he faced when climbing the summits. His candid and often humorous firsthand accounts remind us of the need for courage, commitment, and patience in overcoming adversity and whatever “mountains” each of us face.
