The Maryville College Division of Fine Arts will present Trillium and Friends, featuring special performances by tenor and Maryville College alumnus John Wesley Wright ’87.
The program will include Johannes Brahms’ Trio in B Major, Op. 8 and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge. The concert will also include a performance of a collection of spirituals set by Steven M. Allen, a composer, conductor and ethnomusicologist.
Trillium is an ensemble of strings and piano that includes Alison Maerker Garner, violin; Alicia Randisi-Hooker, cello and adjunct faculty at MC; and Robert Bonham, piano and professor emeritus at Maryville College. In addition to Wright, two special guests will join Trillium for the March 4 concert: violinists Kimberly Simpkins and Robyn James.
John Wesley Wright, tenor, is the coordinator of the voice and opera workshop programs at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md., and co-director of the Broadway program at the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts. He is an active clinician, consultant and leader of workshops on voice production, song interpretation and African American song tradition. He is known for his artistic and soulful interpretations of music from baroque to Broadway.
The concert is free and open to the public.
