A free showing of The Great Gilly Hopkins as part of Terabithia and Beyond: Celebrating the Life and Work of Katherine Paterson.
The Great Gilly Hopkins was originally written by Katherine Paterson and was published in March 1978. It won the National Book Award in 1979 and was also a New Berry Honor Book that same year. The story follows Gilly Hopkins, who has been stuck in foster families as long as she can remember. Gilly is smart, brash, and unmanageable – and that’s the way she likes it. When Gilly is sent to live with the Trotters – the strangest foster family yet – she decides to get out of there fast. Unfortunately, her plan doesn’t work out quite as well as she hoped it would.
Please join us in enjoying The Great Gilly Hopkins, the most recent of Katherine Paterson’s books to be made into a movie!
Concessions will be available, as well as a mini-bookstore featuring Katherine Paterson’s books!
If you want to see Katherine Paterson speak in-person, please be sure to check out other Terabithia and Beyond events as she will not be at this event.
Free and open to the public! A ticket is required. Tickets may be acquired online and are subject to service fees. Tickets may also be acquired in person or by calling the Box Office at 865-981-8590.
